MASIRAH: Specialists at the Environment Center in the Wilayat of Masirah, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, have successfully spotted and documented two humpback whales in the marine area located northeast of the island.
The sighting, recorded during ongoing field surveys and environmental monitoring, captured an active 'feeding' state, reflecting the high biological value of this geographical range, specifically within the boundaries of 'Sector One.'
This observation is part of the centre's continuous efforts to track endangered species and document their natural behaviour within the wilayat's waters.
'Sector One' and the northeastern region possess significant environmental importance due to their unique characteristics. These waters serve as a rich feeding ground not only for whales but also for sea turtles, making the area a vital hub for biodiversity.
The region is characterised by an integrated ecosystem, where the open marine space provides a necessary habitat to ensure the survival of these creatures through an abundance of food. The significance of the site lies in its combination of migratory corridors and intensive feeding activity, necessitating ongoing precise monitoring and scientific documentation.
This new documentation will contribute to strengthening the scientific database concerning the marine range.
